Rod and Sue of The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre were contacted by four lots of people all reporting three miniature ponies that were in a terrible state of neglect and being kept in a stony pen on a busy main road in Daya Nueva. Rod and Sue responded straight away and were horrified at what they saw. A local butcher had bought these 3 miniature ponies to be used as play things for his grand children – they were kept in appalling conditions, fed on dry bread and broccoli and had never received any care or attention which is so vital for a healthy horse. Rod and Sue had to visit with the Spanish butcher three times to try and convince him to let The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre buy them off him – he was adamant he wouldn’t sell them. Then, because the Guardia Civil got involved he succumbed and decided that the Easy Horse Care Rescue could buy them off him for 550 euro. 350 euro Rod and Sue found and two other parties came up with 100 euro each – the translator used to help also gave 100 euros because he was so touched and appalled by the condition of all three ponies. One of the horses will probably need to be put to sleep, the extent of her injuries are so bad. None of her feet have ever been cut and trying to walk has caused her joints to go and the pressure has pulled her shoulders out of their sockets. It is a very sad and tragic thing to witness. The kindness from the general public has enabled Rod and Sue to rescue these beautiful animals and give them some sort of quality of life, even for the poor animal that may have to be put to sleep to end her pain – at least she will be with people who love her and care about her. It is important for people to be aware that this kind of cruelty and
maltreatment goes on all around and it’s happening on our doorsteps. With your help the Easy Horse Care Rescue centre can continue to rescue horses like these and offer them a safe environment where they will be cared for and live happy lives – but we need your help.
Please, if you can help sponsor these animals any contribution is truly appreciated.
