Nelson
Rescue date - 10 October 2010
Owned by gypsies and found in Almoradi Nelson aged around 14 was one of four horses, (two of which were minis) left tied to trees all summer with no food, no shelter from the blazing sun and no water. All four horses were malnourished and in a very poor condition. Three of the horses were taken into hiding as we knew the gypsies would try to find them, however Nelson, one of the minis, returned to the Centre with us immediately as he was in such a bad condition and needed veterinary treatment straight away. He had a terrible eye infection and in fact his eye was in such a dreadful state that the only option left open to our vet was to remove the eye.
Nelson has now been at the centre for some months. He has recently been sterilized and has made a good recovery. He is a very strong little horse and is turned out every day with the other miniatures at the Centre. Nelson is so looking forward to our mini Faith coming back from Barcelona where she is being treated by renowned specialist vet Gaspar Castelijn as they formed a strong bond before Faith went away and would spend all their days together.
