Silent misery, ignored by authorities

horse rescue
Latest update September 2011
The local police that were called out immediately to the scene of the horses and donkeys at San Luis had no interest and ordered the volunteers to leave, however Spanish local TV arrived the next day to televise the situation on its evening news broadcast. This media coverage encouraged the gypsies to negotiate a financial settlement for the animals, which are all now safely here at the centre.
Many members of public kindly gave money to help us to secure their release from these horrific conditions.
I am a volunteer from Sweden helping out at the Rescue Centre for the last 3 months. Last night after some phone calls and messages we were out on a rescue  to help a white horse tied to an advertising board near Mercadonna at san luise
We also found another horse and two donkeys in a worse state than the white horse in a building nearby. I have never seen anything as bad before
The local police were called there but they were not realy interested. They gave us a hard time about taking photos and our paperwork but in the end just drove of and left the animals to keep on living like they did. While they were there the dog catcher from torrevieja council came there and took the white horse away saying he was going take it to the dog pund which we complained about since they wouldn't have the resources to keep a horse.  But he just stood at El Limonar  roundabout waiting to return this horse to the gypsies again. He did not rescue it, just gave it back
A while later the horse was back with the gypsies .
We will do what ever we can to rescue these animals and If anyone can help us in any way with the rescue please call us on
965 967 033 or 652 021 980.
Latest update
The two donkeys have been rescued and are at the rescue centre, we are now attempting a second time to rescue the white horse.
GREAT NEWS !!!!!!!!
We have at long last managed to rescue Mimosa. She has settled in at the centre and today she has been out in the fields. She is free at last and safe. It is so fantastic to see her happy again. We would like to thank all our wonderful supporters and Sponsors who have made it possible for this to happen.
