Conker
Rescued: April 20, 2015

Conker was found tied to a barrier right beside the blaring AP-7 motorway near San Javier. We will never know how he got there or how many cars passed him by before a kind citizen reported this strange scene to the police.

His case landed on the desk of a kind policewoman who has been involved in many of our rescues across the Murcia area so, naturally, she immediately called us in.

When he arrived at our centre, Conker was in poor condition and extremely nervous about everything. He was skittish even when we tried to groom him and very head shy, indicating he’d been bashed about in the past. Unfortunately, as he did not have an identification chip, we will never be able to pinpoint his former owner.

Little by little, we worked with Conker to build his confidence and trust in humans once more. Like so many others here at our rescue centre, once Conker learned that he was not going to be hit or starved, his true personality began to shine through.

Conker is a very bright young man – believed to be aged about nine when rescued – and has really grown into himself to become quite strong and muscular.

But introducing Conker to our fields proved a challenge, as it turns out he’s a bit of a bully! A lot of the horses, even the bigger ones, are a little frightened of him – aside from Louie, that is, who’s a great big horse himself. Nonetheless, wherever we put him, Conker always tries to assert himself as head honcho.

These days, Conker is an affectionate and friendly pony, though still prone to nervousness and anxiousness if not handled gently.
