Hurricane
Rescued: July 6, 2014
Passed away: July 17, 2017

Hurricane was found tied to a palm tree and simply abandoned. Rojales police were involved and were a huge help in saving this old horse, who we believe was at least 28 years old when rescued in July 2014.

It was immediately obvious that Hurricane’s legs had been badly damaged from years of overwork and we therefore didn’t expect him to live long. He actually arrived as a stallion and we did not have him castrated as usual, as we feared he would not survive the surgery. Yet this beautiful old man surprised us all and powered on for three years under our care.

Very sadly, one morning in July 2017, we were forced to say goodbye to old Hurricane. He came down with colic and we immediately got our equine veterinarian Dorothea out, but it soon became obvious that he had a twist in his gut. Bearing in mind his age and the very poor condition of his legs, we made the difficult decision to have him put to sleep rather than go through the stress of a trip to the horse hospital.

We loved Hurricane very much, he was a lovely old horse, just an absolute gentleman and he will be very missed. At least we could ensure he died with dignity and is now in peace.
