Penelope, Leonard and Leonardo
Penelope’s rescue: July 2019
Leonard & Leonardo’s birth: October 2019
Penelope’s passing: Septembre 2020

We were left utterly speechless by the unfolding story of Penelope, a pot-bellied pig who unexpectedly found her way to our rescue centre. The narrative began in July 2019 when one of our workers made a surprising discovery at the centre’s doorstep. Only two weeks after Ruppert, another pig, alone and seemingly abandoned, had entered our care. Questions lingered: Did it escape from a nearby location, or was it left here intentionally by someone seeking to part ways?

As days unfolded, our latest addition, Penelope, underwent a remarkable transformation and found companionship with Isadora, another pot-bellied pig residing at the centre. Though still reserved around people, Penelope gradually built confidence.

And then, the plot thickened! In October 2019, just a few months after her arrival, Penelope Pig, once a newcomer herself, shocked us all by welcoming two tiny piglets into the world, that we affectionately named Leonard & Leonardo.

Sadly, Penelope passed away in September 2020 after getting paralyzed by an arthritis infection that couldn’t be relieved despite all the veterinary treatments.

Despite their mother’s passing, Leonard and Leonardo continue to live happily at the centre, sharing Ruppert’s garden.
