Rosie
Rescued: May 1, 2014
Death: August 26, 2021

Rosie is a grey mare, believed to be in her late 20s and a very gentle and sensitive lady. She was among the 14 skeletal horses we rescued from a bankrupt horse dealer at Callosa de Segura in 2014, our largest and most expensive rescue operation to date.

Each horse was neglected, starving, and undoubtedly very near death. They had been kept in the most appalling conditions, chained to a wall 24 hours a day with very limited access to food and water. Eventually, their owner was criminally convicted of animal abuse.

Rosie became a surrogate mum to our foal Lily when Lily’s own mum (also one of the Callosa rescues) sadly passed away just six weeks after the birth.
