Solvi
Rescued: April 9, 2012
Passed away: December 4, 2013
This beautiful old horse came to us in April 2012 where we were able to give her all the love and care she so deserved in the winter of her life.
We welcomed Solvi to the centre after being contacted by one of our great supporters, Solvi Jansen. She was notified by a worried volunteer who had visited the Galgos Del Sol dogs home to rescue a dog when she saw a horse with a severe eye infection who was in need of urgent medical treatment.
Easy Horse Care went to the location of the horse early that morning and negotiated with the owners about her condition.
The remaining horses at this location had ample food and water at their disposal. As this meets the minimum requirements by law this is not a case for the Seprona.
However; our volunteer forged a relationship with the owners of these horses to be able to assist in the future.
In appreciation of all the support we received from Solvi Jansen, who also offered to assist us with the medical bills for the treatment of the mare, we decided to call the mare Solvi.
After bringing her home to the centre, our vet Dorothea advised she would be unable to save the eye and it had to be surgically removed just a few days later.
After Solvi received a sedative Dorothea started administering the local anaesthetic. The surgery was completed successfully with a drain being left in her eye for a week to allow us to inject antibiotics through this drain as well as saline to clean the eye socket and prevent infections. She also received additional antibiotics and painkillers to fight off the existing infection.
Despite her condition when she arrived and the obvious pain she must have been in, Solvi adapted very well to life at the rescue centre and was a free spirit roaming the paddocks.
Sadly, she was diagnosed with cancer that was slowly taking over and we did not want her to suffer, so we made the tough decision to have her put to sleep. We miss her terribly.
