It's been another busy, busy month at the Rescue Centre, one that once again, could not have been possible without the help of our supporters and volunteers so thank you all and remember the Centre is still open to the public every Sunday and Wednesday from 1-4pm where you can meet all our four-legged friends and don't forget to keep in touch with us via our Facebook page.

Mayor apologies
Mayor apologisesThe Mayor of Daya Vieja has made an apology to the Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre recently for not doing more to help the plight of Captain and Hope who were rescued from the village around 2 years ago.
Mayor Rafael Vives Pertusa received much criticism from local residents, particularly amongst the ex-pat community for not stepping in, which was unfair according to local resident David Munn who says the Mayor was dealing with family illness at the time. However, now, David has introduced Easy Horse Care to the Mayor and he is more than willing to help and invited us to meet with him on Tuesday 31st January where he took us round the spectacular Villa Vera and its stables. Here, he generously offered Easy Horse Care the use of the stables as emergency housing for the horses should we need it and says he will be on hand to help in any other way he can. “It is a very kind offer of help from the Mayor and we are delighted and excited about forging new relationships with the local authorities and the Spanish community, it is a great step forward for us.” Said Sue Weeding.
More and more volunteers are wanting to travel over from Europe on working holidays and with the Villa Vera able to house around 60 people in the summer it opens up some great opportunities that the team are investigating further and there is also already talk of arranging a summer ball in aid of Easy Horse Care so you could soon be able to experience the allure of the magnificent villa for yourself!
Faith's new leg to arrive any day
FaithThe long awaited new prosthetic limb for Faith that will allow her to bend her leg and greatly enhance her movement and quality of life is due to arrive from America any day now. Once here, Rod and Sue will travel up to Barcelona to personally deliver it to Faith's expert veterinary team and see how she is getting on. More news to follow soon!
Farrier visits
Farrier VisitsOn Saturday 21st January we had our routine visit from the farrier. Arisco II had his old shoes taken off, Cookie, Moses, Bronson, Sofia, Little Miracle and Musico had a trim and Corda Bessa had some new shoes fitted as our photo shows the little diva having a manicure! Dorothea our vet also came to give Dexter his jab but he was far too lively and would not stand still so poor Dorothea had to come back when he calmed down a bit. He really is getting on tremendously, what a character our Dexter is now!
Donation tins

David Longworth has now taken over from Kim Lewis and is therefore now responsible for the collection of the donation tins so if anyone knows of the whereabouts of a tin that has not been collected for some time please contact David, along with information of any potentially new venues that would have a tin. David says, “We are also re-introducing football cards to run parallel with the tins at existing and new venues, this also gives our supporters the chance of winning some money at the same time!”

Volunteer accomodation wanted

As mentioned above, more and more people are wanting to stay with us and volunteer at the Centre. Whilst in the future we hope to develop this area and secure more permanent accommodation, such as the Villa Vera, in the meantime we are appealing for help to solve this problem.

Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre are asking the local builders and councils if they have a mobile site unit, cabin or mobile home that could be converted into temporary accommodation for use at the Centre by new volunteers wishing to stay short term and help to contact us.

If anyone would be able to donate such an item and deliver it to the Centre please contact Sue directly on 652 021 980. We realise this would be an immense donation and would be very much appreciated and recognition would be made public along with a mention in our newsletter.

Goodbye to a dear friend

It is with much sadness that we have to report that our dear friend and volunteer Anne has sadly passed away. Anne was an avid supporter of Easy Horse Care and was at the Centre every Wednesday and Sunday for the open days and was a volunteer in the charity shops. “She was a marvellous volunteer,” said Sue, “and a true volunteer who came here simply for the horses. We are all devastated and she will be sadly missed.”
