New and larger Gran Alacant charity shop to open
A new charity shop selling furniture, clothes, shoes and other high-quality large items is set to open at Gran Alacant this month to raise money for the Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre.
The new store will open behind a much smaller rescue centre charity shop, which has proven so successful since its launch about 18 months ago that a bigger space is needed.
Rescue centre co-founder Sue Weeding said members of the public are invited to the larger store’s official opening on Tuesday, December 15 at 12pm. Taffeta, a miniature pony rescued in 2008, will also attend.
“Because of the fantastic volunteers we have in Gran Alacant – we have about 30 there now – and the huge support from the surrounding areas, we’re literally floor to ceiling with donations,” Sue said.
“Now that we finally have the keys to the bigger store, we’re up and running and are able to take donations of furniture and large items that we previously didn’t have the space for.”
The existing shop will be converted into a book and euro bargain shop, while the new store will sell larger, higher-quality items.
Donations of items to stock the store, or any of the rescue centre’s other eight charity shops across the Alicante province, are gratefully welcomed. A pick-up service is available to collect large donated items such as furniture and each shop also offers a delivery service for large items purchased in-store.
All funds raised go towards the hefty feeding and care costs of the Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre’s more than 90 horses, ponies and donkeys rescued from abuse, neglect and abandonment.
Anyone interested in making a donation, becoming a long-term sponsor, or volunteering at the rescue centre or in the charity shops can call Sue on 652 021 980.
The Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre, located just outside Rojales at Partido Lo Garriga, 59, opens to the public on the first Sunday of every month between 1pm and 4pm. Free horse tours run throughout the afternoon and refreshments are available in the café. For more details and directions, please visit www.easyhorsecare.net.
