Phew, its hot, hot, hot but silly season is nearly over! However, we are still quite a few volunteers down with those who go back to the UK for July and August and those who have friends and family over so if you can give any time to help out at our Rescue Centre in Rojales, either on the open days every Sunday and Wednesday or in the stables, that would be much appreciated! Mention it to your visitors also, maybe they're like to enjoy and experience a bit of a 'working holiday' volunteering with us.... contact Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre in the usual ways! But in the meantime, it's business as usual! Rod and Sue Weeding |

![]() We This month we rescued a mare and a stallion, Macarena, who has now been renamed Maggie-May, and Nero but it was a tale of two halves as we were just too late to save a third horse.
We first heard about the horses when some holiday makers went in to the La Zenia charity shop. They had gone to a riding centre on the Orihuela Costa they had previously visited, to find the horses seriously underweight and skeletal. We acted immediately and went straight to the premises that day where we found several horses that were left there starving. It seems the livery yard was being rented by the owners of the premises but the business had failed. Many people who had kept their horses there were removing them that weekend as the centre was closed but two horses belonged to the guy running the business and he had simply locked them away and left them, unable to afford to feed them. Another had been left by the owner who had lost interest and hadn't paid any stable fees so again, was left to go hungry. We tracked down the owner of the premises who was equally shocked at what we had found and immediately assisted us in getting the horses out of there. Sadly, as feared, when we returned one of the horses was lying dead in the stable. Our equine vet Dorothea has checked them both over. The mare will not be able to be ridden for at least a year due to severe muscle wastage and sadly she was still being ridden at the very end as you can see the saddle marks on her. Nero has been castrated and will this week be put outside for the first time in his life and both are on a special diet as they are full of worms and can't be wormed straight away until we build up their strength. |

![]() It seems everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time as we explained the history of the centre and the work we do and introduced our residents to the visitors. We hope it will be the first coach trip of many. |

Pony Club success |
|||||||||||||
Margaret and Karen who are qualified BHS AI riding instructors, have been working with our Pony Club. The summer has been very busy and the team has been working with some of the children to achieve their first riding qualifications. Karen says, “We are glad to say that the 5 pony club members who took their Association of British Riding Schools (ABRS) exams have all passed. One of the members is 7 and she passed her first equitation exam. Another member who is 10 passed her first 3 equitation exams to level C and A+B stable management. Many of our members are now working for their next exams. We also have a special summer award for Amelia for the most improved and helpful pony club member. She has helped the instructors and the other younger pony club members and she received an Easy Horse Rescue Centre Rosette.”
TheThursday pony club run by Bradley also received some awards. Jo was awarded best yard supervisor; Millie was best groom; Seisha had the most positive attitude towards the horses; Jess most improved in horse knowledge; Laura Equine assistant; Ellie best horse handler; Molly best newcomer and Aja was the best pony club all rounder. All of us at EHC wish to thank all the parents and family members for taking a big interest in the pony club and also for the lollies and cakes and we are hoping to arrange a horse fun day. We will let you know when we have the dates arranged. |
