Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, while campaigning for the better treatment of animals across Spain. We are a no-kill foundation and provide each rescued animal with a safe and loving sanctuary – either here at our centre or via rehoming – for the rest of their lives.

Our rescued ponies

Meet the ponies we've saved from abuse, neglect and abandonment and read their incredible survival stories. You can also meet our rescued horses here and our rescued donkeys here.

"Maybe you can't change the world by saving one horse, but you can change the whole world for the horse that you save." – Sue Weeding, Easy Horse Care co-founder.

Charlie

Once a much-loved gymkhana pony, Charlie was brought to Spain from the UK then given away when his young rider grew up. He suffers from Cushing’s disease and struggles in Spain’s heat, yet still manages to live a happy life with his best friend Lucky.

Cruz on May 21 2017 - photo by Elaine Warnock

Cruz

Cruz had gouges across his face caused by bailing twine his owners had used as a halter. He lost an eye, but under our care Cruz’s misshapen face healed and he’s grown into the most beautiful miniature pony.

Duke on May 21 2017 - photo Elaine Warnock

Duke

Duke was found wandering near Almoradí's communal swimming pool and sports centre and, because he wasn't microchipped, we had no way of finding his owner. We were extremely impressed by the swift action of local police with this case.

Fudge in September 2017 photo Alvaro Soriano Pastor

Fudge

Fudge has been one of our most difficult cases yet. Extremely malnourished, almost blind and with a very wobbly gait likely caused by abuse, Fudge survived so much before his rescue. Despite all that, he's an incredibly sweet pony and we love him to bits.

Magic

Rescued: May 16, 2009 Magic was suffering appalling neglect and facing death at the hands of a local butcher when we found her. Kept in a tiny pen with two other miniature ponies and fed on scraps of stale bread and rotting vegetables, Magic was used as a toy…

Marco on July 28 2017

Marco

Found lying in the streets without any kind of identification, Marco bore the terrible scars of an ill-fitting harness. He also shockingly passed an entire plastic bag shortly after arriving at our rescue centre. He is so very lucky to be alive.

Miracle a few months after rescue

Miracle

It’s truly a miracle that Miracle survived – hence the name. He was tiny, barely three months old, and without his mother. We brought up this sick little foal on mare’s formula and he survived despite the odds.

Rescued: July 19, 2012 We were contacted by the Oriheula dog pound to say that they had a pony that had been left there by the police and that she was taking up the space of 5/6 dogs. They asked us if we could help by having her and of course we said yes. We…

Napoleon on May 21 2017 photo Elaine Warnock

Napoleon

Napoleon had been used to pull a cart that was far too heavy for him, and was often hit over the head with a lump of wood. Rescued along with Nelson, Sophia and Jacob, he now lives a happy life free of cruelty and loves playing chasey with his friends.

Nelson

Nelson was in a dreadful state when rescued along with Napoleon, Sophia and Jacob. His right eye, pierced by a thorn and left untreated, sadly couldn't be saved. Happily, though, Nelson recovered and found a girlfriend: little Magic, who also has only one eye!

Pee wee in September 2017

Pee-wee

Tied to a tree and abandoned, Pee-wee was in a truly awful state. Skeletal, bleeding from the penis and with a mouth infection, rotten teeth and an eye tumour, it's clear this little fellow is a fighter. We will do our best to bring him back to health.

Prince on October 20 2017 1 photo Elaine Warnock

Prince

Found wandering the streets by Almoradí police, Prince has previously suffered a severe blow to his eye. He also can't lock his "knees" (stifles) in the usual way, so they are slowly breaking down. But little by little, he is learning to trust again.

Red & Ruby

Found wandering alone on a road by San Javier police, Red had a deformed hoof and Ruby was malnourished and with a bloated belly full of worms. With love and care, these two miniature ponies gradually returned to health.

Solo

SUCCESSFULLY ADOPTED! Found abandoned on a piece of Cartagena wasteland, Solo is almost blind in one eye due to an untreated previous infection. But he's a very happy miniature pony, with a lovely temperament, and now lives as a companion to an older horse.

Taffeta in October 2012

Taffeta

Taffeta is a mini horse with a great heart and a love of showbiz. Our first ever pony rescue, Taffeta was so thin her hips bones had cut through her skin. After weeks of treatment, this gorgeous girl survived and became one of our centre’s pride and joys.
