Trixie Belle

Rescue date: December 28, 2009
Between Christmas and New Year, 2009, we were called to collect an apparently abandoned miniature horse, left tied to a tree on a local urbanisation.
She'd been there all day without food or water and local residents were worried. She was tethered in a popular dog walking area and there were fears a dog, startled by her presence, might attack her. The police ordered Trixe into our care.
Over the next few weeks we learnt that Trixe was owned by a woman who lived on the urbanisation. She had nowhere appropriate to keep Trixe so kept her tied up on the patio of her house. From time to time, she would take Trixe out and tie her up on public ground.
The woman could not produce the correct paperwork to prove she owned Trixe and the police decided she would be better off with us than tied up on a patio. Trixe is now living very happily at the centre with minis Taffeta and Magic, and donkey Romeo.
Update - 29 April 2011
At first sight it seemed that Trixie Belle aged 2, was well cared for but we quickly realised that she had suffered a permanent disfigurement as her head collar had been put on when she was younger and smaller and left in place causing a deformity as her bones grew, restricted by the collar. As a result of this she now has a deformed jaw and will need specialist dental care for the rest of her life.
