Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate abused, neglected and abandoned horses, ponies and donkeys, while campaigning for the better treatment of animals across Spain. We are a no-kill foundation and provide each rescued animal with a safe and loving sanctuary for the rest of their lives.

Why Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre is a Registered Foundation in Spain

Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre is proud to operate as a legally registered Spanish Foundation (Fundación). Achieving this status was not easy — it required years of work, rigorous legal checks, and the determination of our founders, Susan and Rod Weeding. But it was worth every effort, because becoming a foundation offers something priceless: long-term security for the animals in our care.

What does “Foundation” mean in Spain?

In Spain, a Fundación is a non-profit legal entity that must comply with strict requirements. These include: Transparent governance overseen by an independent board of trustees. Annual reporting and financial accountability to the Spanish authorities. A legal guarantee that all assets are used solely for the benefit of the foundation’s purpose — in our case, the rescue and lifelong care of abused and neglected equines. This structure means Easy Horse Care Rescue Centre does not “belong” to individuals. It exists in its own right, independent of its founders, and is therefore built to last.

Why does this matter for bequests and donations?

One of the most important advantages of being a Spanish foundation is that inheritances and bequests are exempt from inheritance tax. That means every euro left to EHCRC in a will is received in full, without deductions, and goes directly to caring for our animals and running the centre. Your legacy is secure — it will never be diverted to taxes, and it will always be used for the purpose you intended: giving rescued horses, ponies and donkeys the second chance at life they deserve.

Building a lasting future

Susan and Rod fought hard to establish EHCRC as a foundation to ensure that, even after their lifetimes, their assets and the work they began will continue. The foundation structure means the centre will go on — not as a private project, but as a lasting institution dedicated to animal welfare.
